Company Interrelationships:
Varlen Instruments Inc. and Tannas Co.
Being
up to this time a small company, Tannas has had a need to find
effective ways of marketing our products around the world. Fortunately,
we have developed and will maintain very good
representation in Japan, Korea, and India. However, we have been
faced with the need to develop equally effective representation in
the markets of other parts of the world, such as Europe, China,
Africa, South and Central America, etc., where we have been told our
instruments would be well appreciated.
Somewhat more than a year ago -- as a consequence of finding good relationships and indirectly working together on developing a product for Tannas -- Rebecca Cox, Pat Casey, and I, representing Tannas, and Tom McMullen, President of Varlen Instruments, Inc., thought it would be good to set up a marketing relationship. Varlen would become a Tannas representative in some of the areas of the world that Tannas wasn't covering and this could be expanded as we got the working relationship under our belt organizationally.
Varlen is a large and internationally recognized instrument company. It, and its associated instrument companies, Herzog, Alcor, Precision and PetroSpec, are particularly well known for making and supplying dependable equipment for refineries and their labs. As such, Varlen has an effective world-wide marketing arm. Tannas, in turn, is known for its innovation in the development of specialized instruments related to needs downstream of the refineries -- particularly for the automotive, petroleum, and additive industries in their concern with engine, transmissions, gear oils and other uses of lubricants.
The working relationship, established at the beginning of 1998, has been good and growing. We and our associates in Varlen are looking forward to a fine business development serving the technical markets of the world.
