Job Scope

This position applies detailed knowledge of laboratory testing and instrument performance activities to determine chemical and physical characteristics of lubricants and petroleum related materials for such purposes as customer reporting, product or process quality control, product development and test method development.  

Job Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment / instruments according to defined schedules and procedures supplied from OEM. Includes use of references in analysis, control charts and instrument logs.
  • For assigned test ownership areas, lead efforts to implement and maintain Quality System procedures such as writing standard operating procedures and contribute to process improvements.
  • Record test results in line with method and SOP requirements using standardized forms (electronic or paper), laboratory logbooks and/or written reports as applicable. Highlight and document modifications to standard testing or unusual observations / material behaviors.
  • May lead or support approved modifications of instruments or testing environments.
  • Perform duties in a manner that complies with Savant Group safety and code of conduct policies. Participate in Quality management program / ISO initiatives and safety programs including process improvements, procedure documentation and training.
  • Serve as primary and back-up analyst on assigned testing where ISO required training has been completed. Provide support as needed to team members to ensure timely and accurate results delivery.
  • Positively contribute to operational goals and scorecard metrics on a consistent basis.
  • Promote safety and good housekeeping practices in the laboratory for assigned test areas including timely clean-up of test areas and apparatus, sample and reference fluid management, maintaining adequate chemical / test material stock levels and following documented safe operation procedures.
  • Provide written procedures and reports when required. Document project work in a laboratory notebook and internal reports. Participate in the writing of external publications when necessary.
  • Communicate and work directly with management and work teams. Effectively support external and internal customers through professional interactions.

  • Minimum of an Associates degree in science.
  • Experience in calibration and operation of instrumentation, sensors, and controls.

  • Exhibit good oral and written communication skills and professional demeanor.
  • Show qualities of leadership and positive team contributions through work practices and by example.
